H.H. Bhaktaraj Maharaj
H.H. Bhaktaraj Maharaj, the source of inspiration for Sanatan Sanstha, is fondly referred to as ‘Baba’ by His disciples and devotees. Baba was graced by Shri Anantanad Saish, as His Guru. Baba’s life revolved around ‘Bhajan, Bhrama, and Bhandara’ (devotional songs, travel to spread Spirituality and large scale food distribution). Baba gave up His mortal body in Indore, on 17.11.1995.
Bhajans were Baba’s method of spiritual practice, when He was still a disciple. Later, as a Guru in His own right, Bhajans became Baba’s chosen way to guide His disciples and devotees. These Bhajans are written, composed and sung by Baba Himself. Since these Bhajans are composed by Baba, the are an oasis of chaitanya to the spiritual seeker.
Often, while singing some Bhajan, Baba would add chants like ‘Radha Radhakrushna Radha’, ‘Vitthal Vitthal’, ‘Hari Om Tatsat’, ‘Pavana Datta patitapavana Datta’ and then start chanting to the Bhajan’s tune. The listeners would then have the dual pleasure of experiencing the sweetness and variety of the Bhajans as well as the ordered tempo of the chants. One experiences the same Divine consciousness while listening to these chants, as one does while listening to the Bhajans.
Usually Baba would chant a couple of chants while singing a Bhajan. The uniqueness of the ‘Naamdhun’ is that even though Baba varies the tune or the tempo of the chant, the listener feels like listening to the chanting continuously. Baba would intermittently stop chanting, but He would keep playing the Khanjiri (a percussion instrument like the tambourine) and one can clearly make out the chant resonating from the sounds of the Khanjiri. When one listens to chants like ‘Radha Radhakrushna Radha’ for a minute or so, one starts getting into a meditative state, starts experiencing Divine consciousness, Bliss, awakening of ashtasattvik bhav among other spiritual experiences.
With deepest gratitude to H.H. Baba, we humbly offer this collection of melodious and chaitanya bestowing chants – Naamdhun at His Holy feet.
