Unique research explaining the spiritual significance of Vatapournima

A married woman performing arti of the banyan tree

Hindu women perform the vowed religious observance (vrat) of Vatapournima for the husband, so that he is blessed with a long life and so that he remains her partner in seven births. This vowed religious observance is performed to glorify the chastity of Savitri, the woman who had intense discussions on the Scriptures with Deity Yama (Deity of death) for three days. Pleased with her, Yama finally revived her husband Satyawan. Women then commenced this vowed observance asking for longevity for their husbands.  As this discussion occurred below a banyan tree, the tree is associated with Savitri. In the entire sub-continent of Bharat Savitri is considered as the ideal chaste woman and a symbol of eternal wifehood.

‘An experiment was performed by the Maharshi Adhyatma Vishwavidyalay to study the spiritual effects on a married woman after worshiping the banyan tree on the occasion of Vatapournima and also on the banyan tree before and after the worship, using the scientific instrument of the Universal Aura Scanner. The nature of this study, the readings and their analysis is given further.

 1. Nature of the study

In this experiment readings of a married woman were taken before worshiping the banyan tree and after worshiping it. Also, readings of the banyan were taken a day before the eve of Vatapornima and on the day of vatapournima after the worship of the tree by woman. Then a comparative study of all the readings was done.

2. Readings and their analysis

2 A. Analysis of the readings of the negative energy

2 A 1. After worshiping the banyan tree, the negative energy within the married woman disappeared.

Of the two types of negative energies – infrared and ultraviolet, the married woman possessed the former and its aura was 1.06 metres. After the woman worshiped the banyan tree this negative energy vanished.

2 A 2. No negative energy was found in the banyan tree.

2 B. Analysis of readings of the positive energy

It is not mandatory for all individuals, premises or objects to possess positive energy.

2 B 1. Increase in the positive energy within the woman and the tree after the worship
Components
in the study
Total positive energy aura (metres)
Before the worship After the worship Increase in the
total measured aura
1. The banyan tree 1.42 2.96 1.54
2. The married woman (suvasini) devotee 0.51 1.80 1.29

2 C. Analysis of the total measured aura (note)

Note – Total measured aura : This is measured using the saliva of an individual or the dust particles or a part of the object as a sample.

The total measured aura of an average individual is approximately 1 metre.

2 C 1. After ritualistic worship there was an increase in the aura of the banyan tree and the married woman devotee
Components
in the study
Total measured aura of the components (metres)
Before the worship After the worship Increase in the
total measured aura
1. The banyan tree 1.93 4.32 2.39
2. The married woman    (devotee) 1.80 2.94 1.14

Spiritual analysis of the above points is given in ‘point 3’.

 3. Spiritual analysis of the readings

3 A. The banayan tree possesses the ability
to attract the Shiva Principle and to transmit it

The Hindu Dharma has categorised the banyan, peepal, audumbar and shami trees as sacred and their wood is used in yadnyas (fire sacrifices). These trees being sattvik they have the ability to the principles of specific Deities and transmit them into the environment. The banyan tree has the ability to attract the Shiva Principle and to transmit it.

3 B. Causes for increase in the positive energy aura of
the banyan tree after the ritualistic worship of Vatapournima

Before worship the reading showed that the banyan tree had a positive energy aura. However, after the married woman worshiped it on the occasion of Vatapournima, the Shiva Principle within the tree was activated. Hence after the worship the positive energy aura and the total measured aura of the tree showed an increase.

3 C. The married woman devotee received Divine Consciousness (Chaitanya)
after devout fully worshipping the banyan tree on the festival of Vatapournima

In the Hindu Dharma specific dates as per the Hindu lunar calendar have spiritual significance and certain vowed  observances are recommended on these days with the objective of the devotee deriving spiritual benefit from it. On JyeshthaPournima (full moon day) married women perform the vowed observance of Vatapournima  for a long life for their husbands. They worship the banyan tree with spiritual emotion on this day and throughout the day remain engrossed in the vowed observance. The experiment proves that the woman received Divine consciousness after worshiping the tree devout fully. Thus she received spiritual benefits in the form of ‘decrease in her negative energies’, ‘increase in the positive energy within her’ and ‘increase in her total aura’.
