This island with scenic beauty surrounded by river Krishna was inhabited by the first incarnation of Shri Dattatreya, ‘Shripad Shrivallabh’ for 14 years. After the mission of this incarnation was accomplished it became obscure.
The incarnation of Shri Datta, ‘Yogiraj Shri Vasudevanand Saraswati’ (Tembeswami) was blessed by the eight alphabet mantra ‘Digambara Digambara Shripad Vallabh Digambara’ at Shrikshetra Kuravpur. A cave which has become sacred by stay of Vasudevanand Saraswati exists here. In this very place Pachlegaonkar Maharaj was blessed with a vision of Shripad Shrivallabh.
