The Kumbh Mela is a timeless tradition, representing the cultural and spiritual unity of Hindus. Recognised as the largest religious gathering in the world, it serves as a sacred platform for devotees to immerse themselves in faith and devotion. Historically, the Kumbh Mela has been a significant stage for Dharmik awakening and the preservation of Dharma through spiritual gatherings and conferences. Sanatan Sanstha, dedicated to educating the masses on the principles of Dharma, actively participates in the sacred Kumbh Melas to guide devotees on the path of spirituality. This year, the Sanstha will exhibit posters and its published books, providing invaluable knowledge about Dharma to the crores of devotees attending this grand confluence of the faithful. Sacred Planetary Alignments and Kumbh Mela

Haridwar Kumbhparva

When the Sun enters the Mesha zodiac sign and Guru enters the Kumbha zodiac sign

When Jupiter enters the Aquarius and Sun enters Aries, the Kumbh Mela is held at Haridwar. During the Parvakal on 1. Mahashivratri, 2. Chaitra Amavasya, 3. Chaitra Pournima or Vaishakha Pratipada (the day on which the Sun is in the Aries and Jupiter is in the Kumbha sign) Rajyogi snan (Shahisnan) is taken.

Prayag Kumbhparva

When Guru is in the Vrishabha zodiac sign and the Moon and Sun are in Makar zodiac sign

When Jupiter enters Aquarius(Kumbha sign) and Sun and Moon enter Capricorn on Magha Amavasya, the Kumbh Mela is held at Prayag (Allahabad). Every 12 years, a Prayag Kumbh Mela is held at the Triveni Sangam of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati in Prayag. It is called ‘Mahakumbha Mela’. This Kumbha Parva comprises three Parvakals (Auspicious time) – Makar Sankranti, Maghi (Mouni) Amavasya and Vasant Panchami. The Maghi (Mouni) Amavasya is the principal Parva and is referred to as ‘Purnakumbha’. The Magha Pournima is also considered as a Parva (Auspicious) time. A Holy dip in the Ganga has special significance on the days of all the four Parvas. The Kumbha Mela comes every 12 years; every 6 years, the Kumbha Mela organised is called the ‘Ardha Kumbha Mela’.

Ujjain Kumbhparva

When the Sun is in the Mesha zodiac sign and Guru is in the Simha zodiac sign

When Jupiter is in Leo and Sun is in Aries, Simhastha Kumbha Parva is held in Ujjain. On the day of Vaishakha Pournima since it is Parvakal Rajyogi snan (Shahisnan) (Holy bath) is taken. Holy bath is also taken on Chaitra Pournima, Chaitra Amavasya, Akshayya Trutiya, and Ekadashi. The bath in River Kshipra in Ujjain in the month of Vaishakha is considered to be more Holy.

Trymbakeshwar-Nasik Kumbhparva

When Guru and the Sun both enter into the Simha zodiac sign

When Jupiter as well as Sun are in the Leo sign, Nashik Kumbh Mela  takes place at Nashik-Tryambakeshwar. During this period, Rajyogi snan (Shahisnan) is taken during the Parvakal on 1. Shravan Krushna Panchami, 2. Shravan Krushna Amavasya, 3. Bhadrapad Shukla Panchami (Only at Nashik) and Vaman Jayanti (Only at Tryambakeshwar). Apart from this, a special Parvakal exists during the auspicious occasions of Vaidhruti and Vyatipat.

Spiritual Significance of Kumbh Mela

Reap 1,000 Times the Fruit of Spiritual Practice
1
Infinite Merit (Punya)

Bathing in the holy rivers during Kumbh Mela bestows spiritual merit equivalent to performing 1,000 Ashwamedha sacrifices, 100 Vajpay sacrifices, and circumambulating the Earth 100,000 times.

2
Purification of Mind & Karma

The sacred atmosphere of the Kumbh Mela purifies the mind, thoughts, and actions, aligning them with spiritual virtues. The process enhances the spiritual progress of devotees, making actions fruitful and karma pure.

3
Blessings from Divine Energies

The presence of Deities, Matrukas, Yakshas, Gandharvas & Kinnars at the Kumbh Mela creates a spiritually charged environment. Devotees receive blessings and divine assistance for rapid spiritual growth.

4
Liberation of Ancestors

Performing offerings unto ancestors (via pitrutarpan) alongside bathing in the sacred rivers liberates departed souls and grants eternal merit to the performer.

5
Expiation of Sins
