Hindu Gods and Goddesses

Hindu Gods and Goddesses have evoked curiosity for Hindus and non-Hindus alike. From Avatars of Shri Vishnu like Shri Krishna and Shri Ram to fearsome forms of Shakti like Durgadevi, and to the more benign Kuldevata (Family Deity), each God and Goddess has some function and mission.

When you understand the spiritual science that is associated with some Deity, it strengthens your faith in that particular God or Goddess. Faith leads to enriching the worship with bhav, and worship with enriched bhav is more beneficial to you, the worshipper. Thus, the emphasis here is to provide you with information which has been obtained through spiritual practice and is not normally available elsewhere, and is useful from a spiritual perspective.

Shri Ram

Maryadapurushottam, Ekavachani, an ideal in all respects, the refuge of all devotees

Shri Vishnu

Nourisher and sustainer of creation, Bhaktavatsal, the principle from which the world was created

Shri Durga devi

Slayer of powerful demons, protector of devotees, the Divine Shakti manifest as Iccha, Kriya, & Jnan

Shri Saraswati Devi

The Deity of Divine Knowledge and Art, bestower of speech and music, whose worship purifies the intellect

Shri Vitthal

The icon of equality, the Deity who waits, standing on a brick, for His devotee to come visit Him at Pandharpur
