Hussain apologises

On 8 February 2006 , out of his “love for humanity”, Mr. M. F. Husain apologised over the derogatory painting of Bharatmata and decided to remove the painting from an international auction.

It became clear only later that the Bharatmata painting was removed only from “public eye”, and was actually the highest grosser (Rs. 80 lakh) in the auction – fetching 10% to Ms. Ali’s Action India Trust and the rest to Husain.
