HJS' NATIONWIDE STIR

AGAINST NCERT FOR DISTORTING HISTORY

Panaji (Goa) - Based on a curriculum designed by NCERT, the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBS & HSE) made available a textbook on 'History and Political Science' for Marathi medium students of Std. X, just 44 days before the Board exams! This textbook brought to light the disorderly and anti-Marathi activities of the GBS & HSE; it also highlighted the potential harm which can be caused to the academic life, and consequently to the future of students as responsible citizens.
Mr. Ramesh Shinde of
Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) provided information on the distortion of historical facts in this textbook, and also pointed out the innumerable grammatical errors in it. He said, "The preface by Mr. LMT Fernandes, Chairman of the GBS & HSE itself contains 65 errors. This will give an idea of the overall content of the textbook. Titles of some lessons have also been framed erroneously. This, shows the casual attitude and apathy of the Goa Government and the Education Board towards the future of students."

The cover of the textbook carries a picture from a Muslim court; even the excerpts in the picture are in Urdu, thereby conveying an impression that history of Bharat begins from the Muslims. In reality, the culture of Bharat has been the Hindu culture. The Hindu culture is the most ancient of all cultures in the world. Thus, one is inclined to believe that this cover has been designed with the sole intention of pleasing Muslims. Considering the fact that this textbook covers the subject of History under the title 'Bharat and the Contemp-orary World', a few significant points come to light. It covers the contemporary world history starting 1848. This was the period when the British established their rule over Bharat, by wresting power from the Hindus. Hence, when talking of contemporary world history, what is the purpose of putting a picture of a Muslim ruler on the textbook's cover?

This ought to be clarified by the Goa Board of Education and the concerned panel of experts. As a rule, before inducting a new syllabus, the concerned teaching staff is trained. However, the said textbook is an exception to this rule. To add to the misery, the instructions on the usage of this textbook intended for Marathi medium students have been given entirely in English under the title 'How to use this book!' Almost all pictures and maps in the book have been labeled in English. This creates confusion on whether this book is in English or Marathi! This shows the apathy of the Congress Government towards the Marathi language.

The first chapter in the text book is titled, 'Rise of Nationalism in Europe'; it carries a picture of Jesus Christ standing in the sky with a Cross, and representatives of all European Nations rushing towards him with their respective flags. Mr. Shinde noted that the chapter 'Nationalism in India' comes somewhere at the end of the group titled, 'India and the Contemporary World II'.

The textbook supports demand made by Bharatiya Muslims for a separate Muslim country before partition of Bharat. It has been mentioned in the textbook that people following other religions (Muslims and Christians) did not take part in freedom fight because of Hindus. The textbook also supports 'Sachhar Commission' known for its pro-Muslim inclination and policies. The movements undertaken by communists in Nepal and Bolovia have been lauded as 'greatest movements in the world', when these movements find no place in world history. The Central Scheduled Caste and Tribe Commission issued directives on 18th January 2008 declaring the word 'Dalit' to be unconstitutional and restricted its use by any State Government on Government documents. Despite this, the said textbook mentions the word 'Dalit' innumerable times.
Mr. Shinde added that the Syllabus of the NCERT for this subject does not include the National Oath. He said, the textbook was an attempt to glorify Christianity, appease the Muslims and Communists and was critical of Hinduism and there is complete distortion of Bharatiya History.

To create awareness on all this, HJS conducted a meeting first at the Vidyadhiraj Hall at Panaji, Goa. The meeting received an overwhelming response from Marathi-lovers, historians, freedom fighters, teachers, parents and students. This meeting was also attended by Mr. Prajwal Sakhar-dande (historian) and representatives of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Shiv Sena and Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Ramesh Naik of Marathi Rajyabhasha Prasthapan Samiti (MRPS) opined that now the only alternative open to the Hindus is to become 'religious warriors'. He added that it is imperative to take the Government to task over this matter. Mr. GR Dhavlikar of MRPS said that a terrible conspiracy against Hindus is underway and that the Government should be taken to court and forced to withdraw this book. Speaking as a parent, Dr. Pandurang Marathe wondered whether children should answer the exam or not, considering the fact that the book is teaching false history. He also cautioned that parents will not take such matters lying down.

It was unanimously decided in the meeting to start an intense campaign against such activities of the GBS & HSE. It was also decided to appeal to the Government to altogether withdraw the textbook and punish those concerned in this matter, recovering from them the loss incurred by the administration in this regard and take a suitable and early decision to prevent damage to the future of students.

Other Highlights on the Issue :
1.Local Newspapers - Herald, Navhind Times, Gomantak Times, Navprabha, Tarun Bharat, Sunaprant and Goa-doot gave an extensive coverage to the Issue.
2.H.H. Brahmeshanand Swami (Peethadhishwar of Padmanabh Sampraday, Kundaim, Goa) fully supported the activities of HJS and condemned the apathy of the Government.
3.BJP decided to take up the issue of History distorting textbook in the Goa Assembly.
4.Shiv Sena decided to take up the issue in the State of Maharashtra.
5.A memorandum was submitted to the CM of Goa, Mr. Digambar Kamat, who assured 'serious thought' on the Issue.
6."If the Government does not pay heed to the demands of HJS, it will be compelled to hold a demonstration in Panaji and burn the copies of the textbook", informed Mr. Ramesh Shinde.
7.HJS has been conducting Public awareness meetings in Goa.

A Subtle Experiment at the National Camp

Despite Spiritual Levels being same, two Seekers are perceived to be different

Fifty-five participants in the National camp held at Sanatan's Devad Ashram last month, conducted various experiments on co-seekers, objects etc. with a view to enhance their 'subtle' perception. We present here one such experiment on two Sanatan seekers (Mr. Ramesh Gadkari and Mr. Gurunath Dabholkar), looking at them, hearing them.

The table here provides a synopsis

When participants were asked what they felt was the spiritual level of Mr. Gadkari, their answers ranged from 40 to 48%. The correct answer, however, is 60%. Most seekers know Mr. Gadakari because of his prasar seva. Some seekers might have had negative thoughts about him during the course of their seva. Our answers can be wrong if we remember his defects or an unpleasant incident about him. While discussing the subtle reading, the seekers narrated the personality defects of Mr. Gadkari. However, what we have to remember while taking a subtle reading is that we should hold onto the very first thought about the person, so that our mind or intellect do not interfere in our reading. Seekers found a black covering around Mr. Gadkari. His face is tanned, as he often travels in the hot sun doing seva. So if we look at his gross body, we may wrongly feel that the 'tanned skin' is a 'black covering'. We should not take a subtle reading of one's gross body; rather we should pay attention to his mind.

Two married daughters of Mr. Gadkari have been into full time sadhana before marriage. They were staying in the Ashram earlier. Later, one daughter was sent home and the other is not staying in the Ashram due to rules applicable to married seekers in the Ashram. Yet, Mr. Gadkari has remained stable. His stability demonstrates his spiritual progress. Even at such an advanced age, he is also performing the seva of driving the Dharma-rath (used for Hindu Dharmajagruti Sabhas) due to his intense desire.
(We are able to understand one's spiritual level only when we go beyond the limitations of the mind and intellect. If we are not able to understand the spiritual level, we should pay attention to the qualities of the person. By looking at his qualities we can understand the spiritual capacity of the person and this is what we learnt through this experiment.)

Despite spiritual levels being same, two seekers are perceived to be different; reasons for this:
Mr. Dabholkar is humble by nature. So if we study at a mental level, we will feel good looking at him. Mr. Gadkari has leadership quality. Due to this quality, we may find him to be dominating. But he has less ego.
(Mr. Gadkari is suffering from a mild spiritual distress, i.e. 30%. Seekers do understand good and distressful vibrations; but when both the vibrations come together, seekers do not understand which one's are good and which ones are distressful. This was proved once again through the experiment on Mr. Gadkari. These mistakes also bring into focus the special features of seekers from the 'Subtle section' of Sanatan. All seekers should enhance their spiritual practice so that their subtle readings will be correct. It will be very helpful at the time of Dharmik revolution. - H.H. Dr. Athavale.)

Mr. Dabholkar and Mr. Gadkari are two examples which show that the nature of seva is not important, how one does it is!
It is not important what seva is the seeker doing or which section he is in; how he does the seva assigned to him is important. If he does the seva with earnestness, prayer and gratitude, an inferior seva also reaches the Holy feet of God. Mr. Gadkari and Mr. Dabholkar are two striking examples. Mr. Gadkari was in prasar seva for a few years; for the last few months, he has been touring with the Dharmarath. Mr. Dabholkar was earlier at the reception counter at Devad Ashram; now is doing seva in demand-supply section. Their spiritual level is 60%. Let no one feel that only those who do prasar seva progress spiritually!
- H.H. Dr. Athavale.

HJS members stop sale of Clothes, that carried pictures of Deities

Mapusa (Goa) - Shopkeepers in the 'Flea Market' in Hanajun village here were selling clothes that carried pictures of Deities. Last month some members of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) visited these shopkeepers and explained to them how they were denigrating the Hindu Deities. Some agreed and stopped selling such clothes and lingerie items.

When some of them again kept such clothes for sale, HJS members visited them again and explained how their actions were hurting the religious feelings of Hindus. A representation was also given to the local Police station. The Police has said that since the representation, they have been carrying out regular checks.

No room for 'FACT' in Dravidian land!

A Policeman pulls down a Painiting

Chennai- 'FACT (Foundation Against Continuing Terrorism)' had organised an Exhibition of Paintings under the theme 'Aurangzeb as he was according to Mughal Records' here at the Lalit Kala Academy (LKA) from 3rd to 9th March 2008. The Exhibition was inaugur-ated by Mr. Vittal (former Chief Vigilance Commissioner), Mr. Raman (former RAW Official) and Mr. S Gurumurthy (Columnist).

On 5th March, a group of 15 Muslims visited the Exhibition and argued with the volunteers about the authenticity of the paintings. Next morning a few Police officers from the local Police station were posted at the venue, due to the ruckus caused by the Muslims the previous day. Anticipating problems, LKA's secretary, Mr. Palaniappan asked the organisers to vacate.

In the afternoon, Prince of Arcot, Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali, visited the Exhibition and argued with the volunteers about the truth & authenticity of the paintings. He lashed out at FACT volunteers accusing them of 'misrepresenting facts'. He was particularly enraged by two miniatures - the first depicting Aurangzeb's army destroying the Somnath temple and the second showing the destruction of the Keshav Rai temple in Mathura.

That evening TV and press media visited the Exhibition to interview Mr. Francois Gautier, the Founder Trustee of FACT. At that time a group of Muslims, allegedly from TMMK (Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam) and MNP (Manitha Neethi Pasarai) came to the venue, took photographs of a few exhibits with their mobile phone cameras and picked up arguments with the volunteers, most of them elderly women from decent families. They threatened Mr. Gautier and the volunteers to close the show immediately or face the consequences.

Mr. Gautier tried to reason with them, that these were all documents sourced from the original Akhbarat of Mughal courts in the archives of the Museum Department, Govern-ment of India, but they shouted even louder and threat-ened more. The arguments and the Muslims' threats was captured by the TV crews and the news was flashed. The Police initially suggested removal of two pictures viz depicting the demolition of Somnath temple and Keshav Rai temple by the armies of Aurangzeb. (Where were the police when Hindus were protesting against the film 'Jodhaa-Akbar' based on a false story? - Editor)

The Muslims then closeted themselves for an hour with the Police officers and Mr. Palani-appan. Mr Gautier was informed that the Exhibition was being closed down. Mr Gautier rushed to the Police Commissioner's office to plead for a stay order.
As the crowd of Muslims started to swell, the ACP Mr. Murali got tensed, swung into action and terrorised the harmless lady volunteers calling them 'stooges of a white dog'. He rushed up to the hall with a dozen officers and started pulling down the exhibits with force, despite the volunteers repeated pleas to wait till the arrival of Mr. Gautier from the Police Commissioner's office. He did not listen and continued to abuse them in an obscene manner. ACP Murali arrested four volunteers (three of them were elderly ladies) and took them to the Police station. A large group of Muslims were seen standing outside the gates enjoying the show. (How can Police give justice to Hindus, if they are scared of Muslims? - Editor)

The Police let the trouble makers go free and took the organisers to the Police station! A thing like this can happen only in Tamil Nadu, where a 'Minority Government' runs for the welfare of only 'Minorities'. (These are tough times for the Hindus, who are being arrested as they spread awareness of atrocities committed on them. The Exhibition has already been organised in New Delhi, Pune and Bangalore. Then why was it closed down in Chennai because a few Muslims objected? MF Hussain who has depicted Bharatmata in the nude, is enjoying his freedom overseas and Hindus who try to create awareness on atrocities on them by Muslim rulers are taken into Police custody! This is the Mughal nature of the Chennai Police. All Hindus should strongly protest against such treatment. - Editor)

Mr Gautier said, "There are two reasons for this Exhibition. The first, that no Nation can move forward unless its children are taught to look squarely at their own history, the good and the bad, the evil and the pure. The argument that looking at one's history will pit one community against the other does not hold either. Let then Hindus and Muslims come to terms with what happened under Aurangzeb. Aurangzeb was the Hitler, the Asur of Medieval Bharat".

Mr. Gautier and his volunteers are determined to conduct the Exhibition again successfully! We applaud their efforts.
