Navratri Campaign
Saints' Messages about Navratri celebration
"Celebrate Navratri
festival to enlighten life internally and externally!"
- H. H. Swami Viditatmanand.
"During Navratri festival, for the first three days
Goddess Durga, for the next three days Goddess Lakhsmi and for the last three
days Goddess Saraswati are worshipped. "Durga sarva Durg', meaning Durga
removes all obstacles and defects (durgunas). Lakshmi bestows the internal or
divine wealth of virtues or divine qualities. Then upon the mind that is purified
thus after the first six days of worship, Saraswati bestows divine Knowledge
(dnyan). We hope that Navratri festival is celebrated with such a divine motive
and that may the female deity's grace, acquired during this Navratri celebration
remove all obstacles and enlighten our lives internally and externally. The more
each individual progresses thus, the more progress will occur in society and
nation evolution.
"If we celebrate the festival with objective
of divine wealth then we will get an experience of supreme Bliss (Anand)
and the desire for worldly (inferior) pleasures will automatically start
reducing, leading to our true Liberation. May the Mother of the Universe
(Matrushakti or Divine Mother) give inspiration and serenity to all
to celebrate this festival appropriately and may it benefit all of us."
- H. H. Swami Viditatmanand, Thalatej (Ahmadabad),
India.
"Purity (sattvikta) increases by worshipping
the female deity (Devi) with devotion during Navratri festival!"
- H. H. Basawandand Swamiji.
" During Navratri festival if all devotees
worship the female deity with spiritual emotion (bhav), by performing
recitations (parayanas) of Scriptures and holy verses (stotras), and
performing arati it leads to increase in sattvikta. But some so-called
devotees indulge in raja-tama predominant activities like dancing Dandiya
provocatively, drinking alcohol, eating meat, etc., during this period.
People fall prey to incorrect customs because of their (spiritual) ignorance.
The Sanatan has
started the great mission of bringing awareness about the spiritually
correct way of celebrating religious festivals. My blessings are with
them."
- H. H. Basawandand Swamiji,
Shri Adavi Siddheshwar Vedanta Ashram, Kaganur (Kolhapur), India.
"The Sanatan is
well-prepared to transform the public celebration of Navaratra into spiritually
beneficial celebration!"
- H. H. Nilkanth Swami.
"As with the public celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi,
the Sanatan has prepared itself to spread the spiritually correct celebration
of Navratri, by rectifying incorrect customs like the commercial nature of the
celebration, undesirable behavior during Garbha dance, etc. If we look at the
mission of the Sanatan, we will realize that this is a divine mission and is
naturally receiving blessings from all benevolent people (satjans) and Saints.
Hence, day by day, this organization's mission will go on spreading progressively. "
- H. H. Nilkanth Swami,
Samarthanagar (Kolhapur), India.
"The radiance of the lamp lit during Navratri
festival destroys the demon of our spiritual ignorance (adnyan)!"
- Shri Shatasthal Brahmi Chandrashekhar Shivacharya
Swamiji
"Dasra refers to a program of ten days. Goddess
Parvati incarnated as Navadurga and slayed demons. The day of Her victory is
celebrated as Vijayadashami (tenth day of the bright fortnight in the Hindu calendar
month of Ashwin.) During the first nine days (until navami) idols of various
forms of the female deity (Devi) are installed and worshipped. The whole of the
eighth night is spent in worshipping the female deity with great care, singing
holy songs (bhajans), recitations of holy verses, etc.; it is called 'Ashtami
Jagaran (keeping awake on ashtami)'. With the festival of lights, that is, keeping
a ghee lamp lit through out the nine days appeases the deity of the premises
(Vastupurush) and bestows contentment. The radiance of the lamp of Navratri destroys
the demon of ignorance. Let us pray that may the service unto the female deity
(Devi) during this festival brings blessings of serenity and contentment to one
and all. "
- Shri Shatasthal Brahmi Chandrashekhar Shivacharya
Swamiji,
Kanul (Kolhapur), India.

"Adishakti (Divine
Energy) has incarnated on earth to destroy evil!"
- H. H. Bejon Desai, Nashik, India. |
The various campaigns undertaken by the Sanatan
are benefiting not only the society, but also at the individual level.
Currently, society has forgotten the original aim of Navratri celebration
and is lacking in the spiritual emotion (bhav) that Adishakti has incarnated
on earth for the destruction of evil.
It is observed that the spiritual or divine
aspect of the festival is ignored and the celebration is being used
mainly for the purpose of entertainment. Under the pretext of this festival,
'Garba' dance is held late into the night, during which often events
that do not benefit society in any way take place.
The Sanatan's campaign for bringing about
the spiritually correct celebration of the festival and ending any incorrect
practices is really commendable!
- H. H. Bejon Desai, Nashik, India.
"Realize the importance of your divine calling (duty)
instead of getting trapped in worldly happiness!"
- H. H. Kotnis Maharaj, Sangli, India.
'What is the true meaning of Navratri?' 'Do we celebrate
it the correct way?' The answer to these questions is given by Shri Nath Maharaj
at the very beginning of His verse:
"O Anadi, Nirgun Goddess Bhavani,
You have manifested To curb the 'Mahishasur' (demon) of desire,
To remove all obstacles,
To bless Your devotees unto Liberation."
Thus, the true meaning of Navratri celebration
is installing one's very body (deha) as the pot (ghat) at the Devi's
altar and worshipping Her with nine types of devotion (bhakti) on the
nine days to attain 'Self Knowledge' (Self-realization). On the tenth
day (Dasra), one should perform sacrifice by sacrificing one's mind
as the sheep (mendhi) and perform trespassing of the border (seemollanghan)
by trespassing the border of the Great Illusion (Maya)!
We celebrate Navratri without such spiritual
emotion (bhav), performing rituals for the sake of rituals. We place
the flower garlands (mala) on the pot (ghat) only mechanically. When
rituals are performed mechanically like this, the Mahishashur of our
desires (moha) does not reduce, but increases instead. We do not realize
that performing rituals without devotion leads to our own destruction;
our valuable human birth gets wasted, not realizing its true purpose
(to attain God-realization.) Hence, we should awaken and remain alert!
The Sanatan is working hard to bring about
this awareness. It is really needed today. It is important for everyone
to realize one's divine calling (duty) instead of getting trapped in
worldly happiness. Our blessings are with the Sanatan. May their efforts
attain success by God's grace!"
- H. H. Kotnis Maharaj, Sangli, India.
"May God bless the Sanatan in their
mission to establish Righteousness (Dharma)!"
- H. H. Yadav Maharaj, Kolhapur.
This vowed religious observance begins on
the first day (pratipada) of the bright fortnight of the month of Ashvin
till the end of the tenth day (Dashmi). According to one's family traditions,
one fasts for nine days and worships one's female family deity (Kuldevata).
Generally during this period, Goddess Shakti (Divine Energy) is worshiped
with devotion.
Currently, the pollution of unrighteousness
(adharma) has ruined the life of man. Everywhere there is unrighteousness,
corruption, and decline in moral values. It is commendable that the
Sanatan is making efforts to reinstate Righteousness (Dharma) and improve
various aspects of our lives. I pray to The Lord that may He grace the
Sanatan's mission. My blessings are with their sacred mission.
- H. H. Yadav Maharaj, Kolhapur. |
